Helicopteros Nacionales d Colombia v. Hall

In Helicopteros Nacionales d Colombia v. Hall, 466 U.S. 408; 104 S Ct 1868; 80 L Ed 2d 404 (1984) the Supreme Court discussed the concept of general jurisdiction. There, the plaintiff's wrongful death action against a Colombian helicopter service did not arise out of any activity the defendant conducted in the forum state of Texas. Id., 409, 414. However, the Court stated that the lack of such connection did not preclude personal jurisdiction under the Due Process Clause. Id., 414. Rather, personal jurisdiction would be proper provided that the defendant's contacts with the forum state constituted "continuous and systematic general business contacts." Id., 416.
