In McDonough Power Equipment, Inc. v. Greenwood (1984) 464 U.S. 548, a juror's failure to respond to a question on voir dire deprived a party of information that would have been useful in exercising a peremptory challenge. While acknowledging the importance of truthful answers to the goal of an impartial jury, the court held reversal was not required absent a showing "a correct response would have provided a valid basis for a challenge for cause." (Id. at pp. 554, 556.)
