Covino v. Governing Board

In Covino v. Governing Board (1977) 76 Cal. App. 3d 314, a community college district hired Covino under now repealed section 13337.5 to work as a full-time temporary teacher for the 1975-1976 school year. When he was hired, Covino was advised by the community college district that it was prohibited from hiring a temporary employee for more than two semesters in a three-year period. In order to work the following year, Covino offered to waive his tenure rights. The First Appellate District concluded that Covino could not waive his tenure rights and that he could not be reemployed as a temporary teacher within a three-year period because he had already worked two semesters.
