In re Jackson

In In re Jackson (1986) 182 Cal. App. 3d 439, the Kern County Superior Court initially refused to award good/work credits to a prisoner serving a 10-day county jail sentence on weekends because he was not incarcerated for six continuous days. ( Id. at p. 441.) The Court reversed, awarding good/work credits despite arguments based on practicality and inconvenience. ( Id. at p. 443.) Although Jackson did not address presentence custody credits (since it involved a prisoner serving a sentence for contempt of court), its rationale extends to presentence inmates as well.
