In re Jacob S

In In re Jacob S. (2002) 104 Cal.App.4th 1011, the Court said: "In a case where the strength of a bond between very young siblings is difficult to determine because of the young age of the children involved, court-ordered sibling bond studies may be appropriate. Such studies would be helpful--in some cases might even be indispensible--in determining whether the sibling relationship exception to the adoption preference applies." Notably, the court in In re Jacob S. expressly did not decide whether a sibling bonding study in that case was appropriate or indispensible. Instead, it concluded that the juvenile court reasonably determined that the sibling relationship exception did not apply because the benefits to the children being adopted outweighed any benefits the children would have realized in maintaining their sibling relationships.
