In re Jordan

In In re Jordan (1972) 7 Cal.3d 930, two prison inmates complained that letters addressed to their lawyers would be searched under the prison's regulations, which they contended breached the confidentiality of attorney-client communications. The court held that written words could not comprise "contraband" and thus, letters to, or from attorneys were not subject to search. ( Id. at p. 936 & p. 939.)
