In In re Marriage of Braud (1996) 45 Cal.App.4th 797, the parties requested and obtained a statement of decision ( id. at p. 807) and the appellate court reversed because the undisputed evidence showed a significant disparity between the parties' assets and earnings capacities. However, the statement of decision did not explain why the court drastically reduced the award requested by the less affluent spouse. ( Id. at pp. 827-828.)
