Jones v. Palm Springs United School Dist

In Jones v. Palm Springs United School Dist. (1985) 170 Cal. App. 3d 518, the employment contract of a school superintendent incorporated a local regulation requiring an evaluation prior to demotion and the specification of grounds for demotion--actions not required by statute. The court found that the superintendent thereby acquired a legitimate claim of entitlement to the benefits of the contract, including the rights established by the regulation, noting that the school board was given the discretion, by statute, to fix such terms and conditions of the employment contract.
