People v. Anthony

In People v. Anthony (1938) 29 Cal. App. 2d 290, the defendant, a doctor, was convicted of conspiring with others to stage an automobile accident and falsify an insurance claim. The nonaccomplice testimony showed only that the defendant doctor had treated the purported accident victims, participated in settlement discussions with the insurance company, and received a portion of the settlement funds. Thus, in Anthony, the independent evidence merely raised a suspicion that defendant had committed the crimes.
