People v. Bammes

In People v. Bammes (1968) 265 Cal.App.2d 626, when the defendant suddenly pulled into an intersection in front of an oncoming vehicle and thereby caused a collision between that oncoming vehicle and a truck, the defendant was "involved" in the accident despite not being involved in the collision. Thus, the allegation that Gordon ran appellant off the road, if true, is sufficient to support the claim that he was involved in the accident within the meaning of Vehicle Code section 20001. Before the duty to comply with the Vehicle Code reporting requirements arises, the person involved in the accident must be aware of his or her involvement. (People v. Bammes, supra, 265 Cal.App.2d at pp. 633-634.)
