People v. Bhakta

In People v. Bhakta (2006) 135 Cal.App.4th 631, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office brought a successful action against landlords on behalf of the People of the State of California under UCL and the "Red Light Abatement Law," Penal Code section 11225 et seq. The trial court awarded attorney fees pursuant to Civil Code section 3496, subdivision (b), which permits fees to be awarded to the prevailing party in "any case in which a governmental agency seeks to enjoin the use of a building or place for the purpose of illegal gambling, lewdness, assignation, or prostitution."
