In People v. Gzikowski (1982) 32 Cal.3d 580, of the defendant's counsel was permitted to withdraw. The Supreme Court found that the trial court erred when it denied a continuance so that remaining defense counsel, who was too inexperienced to defend capital charges alone, could find new co-counsel.
