Royal Globe Ins. Co. v. Superior Court

In Royal Globe Ins. Co. v. Superior Court (1979) 23 Cal.3d 880, the Supreme Court held that a person injured by the alleged negligence of an insured might sue the negligent party's insurer for unfair settlement practices in violation of that statute. The court said that the statute "was intended to prohibit unfair settlement practices by insurers directed against both claimants and insureds." (23 Cal.3d at p. 888.)
