Slone v. Inyo County Juvenile Court

In Slone v. Inyo County Juvenile Court (1991) 230 Cal. App. 3d 263, decided under an earlier dependency statutory scheme, the juvenile court found the social services department had complied with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and terminated reunification services. The parents then petitioned the superior court, arguing the juvenile court's orders violated the ICWA, and the superior court found it did not have jurisdiction to proceed. ( Id. at pp. 265-266.) On the parents' appeal, the appellate court held one department of the superior court may not invalidate a ruling of another department of the court. ( Id. at pp. 268-270.)
