Uva v. Evans

In Uva v. Evans (1978) 83 Cal. App. 3d 356, the complaint sought $ 30,000 in general damages for a dog bite, but the evidence at the prove-up hearing only demonstrated $ 182.00 in out-of-pocket costs, and an estimated $ 2,150 for additional medical costs. In setting aside the $ 30,000 award, the court found the damages were excessive in light of the harm actually suffered. ( Id. at pp. 364-365.)
