Wright v. City of Los Angeles

In Wright v. City of Los Angeles (1990) 219 Cal.App.3d 318, the plaintiffs sued for the wrongful death of their adult son and obtained a judgment for $2 million. (Id. at p. 354.) Comparing that amount with the evidence presented and with the judgments in other reported cases, the court concluded the award was not "so disproportionate to the plaintiffs' loss as to shock the conscience and warrant interference with the jury's verdict. ." (Id. at p. 356.)
