Johnson v. State

In Johnson v. State 227 Ga. App. 390 (489 SE2d 138) (1997), the Court reversed the judgment of conviction entered on the defendant's non-negotiated guilty plea because the record did not show that he was advised of the mandatory nature of the life sentences to which he subjected himself by pleading guilty. Id. at 390-392 (1). The Court held that the defendant must have "full knowledge of the consequences" of the plea, including "information about the range of punishment he faces." Id. at 391 (1).
