In People v. Terrell, 99 Ill. 2d 427, 433, 459 N.E.2d 1337, 77 Ill. Dec. 88 (1984), an anonymous call at 6:15 a.m. alerted the police that "two men, armed with guns were hiding behind a service station." Terrell, 99 Ill. 2d at 429. On arrival, the dispatched officers observed the defendant, crouched in the weeds 20 to 30 feet from the station, jump up and run with a gun, which he dropped while scaling a nearby fence. Terrell, 99 Ill. 2d at 430. Rejecting defendant's explanation that he was going to the station to buy cigarettes, the court found this evidence sufficient to support his conviction for attempt armed robbery. Terrell, 99 Ill. 2d at 430, 436.
