In Cox v. State (1993), 45 Ill. Ct. Cl. 201, an accident on an icy bridge deck occurred about 90 minutes after the bridge deck was salted on a weekend early morning. IDOT had dispatched a driver on patrol due to a weather advisory. Several reports of accidents were actually received by IDOT 45 minutes prior to that accident. The IDOT yard responsible for maintenance was located five to six blocks from the four-lane bridge which was heavily traveled.
