Self-Defence Claim Despite Proceeding to Beat the Victim After He Was Lying Down

In People v. Balfour, 148 Ill. App. 3d 215, 498 N.E.2d 547, 101 Ill. Dec. 223 (1986), the defendant claimed the victim initiated the fight. Nonetheless, entitlement to self-defense was negated by evidence showing that the defendant then proceeded to beat the victim to death by kicking and stomping on him after he was lying unconscious on the ground.
