Was Testimony of Suspended Police Officer Influenced by His Desire to Return to Active Duty

In People v. Robinson, 56 Ill. App. 3d 832, 371 N.E.2d 1170, 14 Ill. Dec. 117 (1977), the court held that because the witness in question was suspended from the police force at the time of defendant's trial for committing an act of violence and was scheduled for reinstatement only a few days later. The trial court should have allowed defendant to explore the possibility that the witness' testimony was influenced by his desire to return to active duty without further trouble and to avoid further suspension or other disciplinary measures.
