People v. Kreger

In People v. Kreger, 214 Mich App 549, 554-555; 543 NW2d 55 (1995), the Court, noted that the purpose of the articulation requirement is not protection of a defendant's rights but rather to aid the courts. A failure to explain a deviation from the guidelines can be harmless error if the sentence is proportionate and the record indicates that the court was aware of the guidelines. Id.
