In Firmes v. Chase Manhattan Automotive Finance Carp., (50 AD3d 18 [2d Dept 2008]) due to the collision of his motorcycle with a pickup truck, the plaintiff suffered injuries similar to those suffered by plaintiff here, plus an amputation, complications, and a continuing need for psychotherapy. The jury award of $2.2 million for two years of past pain and suffering was reduced on appeal to $1.5 million, or $750,000 a year, and its award of $5.2 million for 50.1 years of future damages was reduced to $3.5 million ($69,860 a year).
