In Matter of New York City Asbestos Litig. (Peraica), Index No.: 190339/2009 (Sup Ct, NY Co 2013) in remitting the award to $18 million, the court points out that Mr. Peraica suffered from mesothelioma for two years, and references the following description of the progression of the disease, "in addition to mesothelioma bilaterally impeding Plaintiff's ability to breathe, these tumors advanced to Peraica's abdomen [i.e. peritoneal carcinomatosis] and caused small bowel obstructions, strangulation, severe ascites, fecal vomiting, and, of course, severe pain."
