In People v. Jennings (54 NY2d 518, 430 N.E.2d 1282, 446 N.Y.S.2d 229 [1981]), the Court of Appeals held that notwithstanding the reasonableness of the arresting officer's reliance upon a mistaken communication that there was a valid parole warrant outstanding for the driver, the arrest and subsequent seizure of items from the defendant's person and the trunk of his car was invalid. The court noted that good faith cannot validate an arrest based upon the purported authority of a document which objectively furnished no justification for the intrusion.
