In Mujica v. State University Constr. Fund, 275 AD2d 976 (4th Dept. 2000), the 19-year-old plaintiff was a performing asbestos removal work when he injured his right knee. He sustained a tear of the posterior cruciate ligament which required him to undergo two surgeries. As a result of the injury, he had pain and swelling in his right knee and walked with a limp. The jury awarded the plaintiff one million dollars for future pain and suffering, which was reduced by the appellate court to $ 500,000.00.
