Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. v. County of Suffolk

In Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. v. County of Suffolk, 77 NY2d 761 (1991), the Association's claim of standing failed for lack of an interest falling within the recognized zone of interest. There, the defendant-County had enacted "the Plastics Law" and the plaintiff challenged the local legislation under SEQRA. Plaintiff was a nationwide trade organization. On a motion for summary judgment Special Term denied defendant's application, concluding that the plaintiff had standing, because the litigation involved an "issue of vital public concern".
