Refusal to Accept a Plea Because Court's Plea Deadline Had Passed

In State v. Stephenson (Apr. 30, 1997), 9th Dist. No. 17752, 1997 Ohio App, the Court reviewed a challenge to the trial court's refusal to accept a plea because the court's "plea deadline" had passed. In that case, the Court reiterated that the trial court has discretion to accept a plea bargain. Id. at 5. See Akron v. Ragsdale (1978), 61 Ohio App.2d 107, 109, 399 N.E.2d 119. The Court explained that the trial court should state its reasons for rejecting a recommended plea bargain. Id.
