Taylor v. Unemployment Compensation Board of Review

In Taylor v. Unemployment Compensation Board of Review, 474 Pa. 351, 378 A.2d 829 (1977), a claimant was found to have a necessitous reason to quit after being subjected to racial slurs from his employer, co-workers and customers over a period of several years. The claimant demonstrated numerous instances of verbal abuse through his own testimony and that of other employees. The Supreme Court found that this outside "pressure of real not imaginary, substantial not trifling, reasonable not whimsical, circumstances" made his resignation voluntary.
