Anthem Ins. Cos., Inc. v. Tenet Healthcare Corp

In Anthem Ins. Cos., Inc. v. Tenet Healthcare Corp. (Ind. 2000) 730 N.E.2d 1227, the Indiana Supreme court explained that a two-step analysis is required in order to determine whether an Indiana court may exercise personal jurisdiction. (Id. at p. 1232.) First, the court must resolve whether the conduct falls under Indiana Trial Rule 4.4 (rule 4.4. or the long-arm statute). (Anthem, at p. 1232.) Second, if the conduct falls under the long-arm statute, the court must determine whether the exercise of personal jurisdiction comports with the Due Process Clause as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court and Indiana courts.
