In re Marriage of Shaughnessy

In In re Marriage of Shaughnessy (2006) 139 Cal.App.4th 1225, the former wife had been supported for eight years and had "'continued in her floral business despite the fact that she now claims she nets only around $ 650 per month from the business. The former wife should have been aware that if the above is true, the floral business is not the means for her continued long term economic well being.'" (Shaughnessy, supra, 139 Cal.App.4th at p. 1234.) In affirming the trial court's decision to lower the amount of her monthly spousal support, the Court of Appeal noted that "'a supported spouse cannot make unwise decisions which have the effect of preventing him or her from becoming self-supporting and expect the supporting spouse to pick up the tab.'" (Id. at p. 1238.)
