People v. Saffle

In People v. Saffle (1992) 4 Cal.App.4th 434, the defendant, holding a knife, and having sexually assaulted the victim, forbade her to answer a knock at the door, which he believed to be the police. (Id. at p. 437.) On appeal, the court held that section 654 did not bar separate punishments for false imprisonment and the sex offenses. The court stated, "Here, once the sexual offenses were completed, Saffle's objective changed. He was no longer interested in fulfilling a sexual objective; he was seeking to prevent the victim from reporting the incident." (Id. at p. 440.)
