Bangs Formula Maryland

The "Bangs formula" is used to adjust Chimes's rights in the stock options. In Bangs v. Bangs, 59 Md. App. 350, 475 A.2d 1214 (1984), the chancellor awarded future shares in the husband's retirement benefits to the wife if, as, and when he received them. To calculate the wife's share, the benefits when received would be multiplied by .5 (her award share), then further multiplied by a fraction that represented the years of marriage divided by the total years of employment.
