Ames v. Kansas

In Ames v. Kansas, 111 U.S. 449, 4 S.Ct. 437, 28 L.Ed. 482 (1884), addressing the "arising under" removal provision of the Federal Power Act ("FPA") of March 3, 1875, see 18 Stat. 470, 470-71, the Court considered "the question whether a suit brought by a State in one of its own courts, against a corporation amenable to its own process, to try the right of the corporation to exercise corporate powers within the territorial limits of the State, can be removed to the Circuit Court of the United States...." Ames, 111 U.S. at 462, 4 S.Ct. 437.
