Thomas v. Firestone Tire and Rubber Company

In Thomas v. Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, 164 W. Va. 763, 266 S.E.2d 905 (1980), the Court engaged in a lengthy examination of the meaning of the word "any" when used in a statute. The Court noted that authorities attributed to the word the meanings "no matter which" and "whichever, of whatever kind, of whatever quantity." In the Firestone case, the Court concluded that the word "any" when used in statutes dealing with debt collection practices had what was, in effect, the meaning "every" or "all."
